It is probably residual from shale or shaly sandstone,and there is an exposure of it about 100 feet long and 8 feet high, withoutany bedrock showing. As the tests show, it (Lab. Xo. 2073) is a good brick material, andthough from the same formation, it yields results quite unlike thoseobtained on testing Xo. 2039, and is of better grade.
