Chateau du Ry-Chazerat

Mentioned since the 15th century the Château du Ry became 19th century property of Adolphe Godin de Lépinay, engineer, who transformed the house and improved his vast agricultural estate. Adolphe Godin de Lépinay (1821-1888) is the often overlooked author of the plans for the Panama Canal as it was finally built, after the failure of the operation led by Ferdinand de Lesseps. A bridges and roads engineer, he is also at the origin of numerous railway routes in France and Algeria. He bequeathed his manor and land in Ry-Chazerat to the Academy of Sciences. The Academy of Sciences, legatee of the field, through its “Villa Lépinay” project, is engaged with public and private partners in an ambitious project to promote science.
