Figure 1 is a semi- logarithmic plot of both per cent weight loss and actual weight loss as functions of size for 39 mussels after 49 hours of desiccation in the first experiment. Per cent weight loss decreases with increasing size, but actual weight loss increases with size and this increase is greater in small than large mussels.
