York has a reputation for being the most haunted city in Europe, and maybe, the world with an estimated 500 ghosts. The York Ghost Merchants offers ghost tales going back centuries. Perhaps the most famous is the sighting of marching Roman soldiers around the grounds of York Minster at night.
