A baby suffering from respiratory complications lies in a paediatric emergency unit in one of the city hospitals in the capital Ulaanbaatar, January 21, 2019. An ever-increasing number of children are suffering from respiratory related illnesses, stretching health infrastructures to the limit in Ulaanbaatar. UNICEF Mongolia has warned of a looming “child health crisis” linked directly to the high pollution levels in the winter months. UNICEF has warned the levels of global air pollution contribute to 600,000 child deaths a year, more than are caused by Malaria and HIV/Aids combined.
