Storm Gertrude, that battered the UK, with winds of up to 132 mph resulted in this Trinity House, Cardinal Mark, West Buoy, being ripped off its anchor moorings and washed up on Walney Island. The Mark Buoy was sighted at Morecambe, 53' 003" The buoys show areas of deepest navigable water, with a West buoy, showing that the deepest water is to the West of the buoy. The thickness of the steel anchor chain shows what power it must have taken to snap the chain. Photo taken on Saturday 30th January 2016.
