Mary Van Rensselaer Buell (1893-1969), American chemist. Buell carried out extensive research in nutrition and physiological chemistry at the University of Wisconsin, University of Iowa, Johns Hopkins University, Washington University, and the University of Chicago. She researched the chemistry of nucleic acids and nucleotides, hormones and the metabolism of carbohydrates, and developed ultramicroscopic procedures for the analysis of enzyme activity.
