Jakobshavn (also known as Sermeq Kujalleq) Glacier just outside the town of Ilulissat on the west coast of Greenland

Jakobshavn (also known as Sermeq Kujalleq) Glacier just outside the town of Ilulissat on the west coast of Greenland. This is the fastest and most active glacier in the world, 'creeping' at the rate of 7 km ( miles) every year. Some 18-20 tons of ice calve off the glacier daily. Icebergs travel down the fjord, clogging the harbor of the town, which sits at the mouth of the fjord. Ilulissat means iceberg in Greenlandic. The town today has 4,000 people and is the third largest in Greenland. In 2004 the ice fjord was admitted to the UNESCO World Heritage list.
