It was dead in the spring, having been left outside for want ofroom. The most beautiful of the speciesis considered to be , a native ofthe Norfolk Islands, but unless I hadvery large houses I could not go intothis class of plants. I believe youcould keep the Araucaria in a lightcellar through the winter. They areunruly in a window. For lawn decora-tion there are few things that excelthem. In England, and even in theSouth of Scotland, they are to be found, but sometimes they suffer in hard sharp pointed leaves much like mu- pines. Idaresay you will know something of this treeand if it would grow in this country. Kindlymenti(m it in The Horticultiuist as soon asconvenient, as if it would live through ourwinters, I would get some and decorate ourlawn. Yours etc., S. H. Sm.\i,i,m., Londmi,Out. Having noticed one of these curioustrees in the collection of Mr. N. Rob-ertson, Supt. of the Govt, grounds,Ottawa, we have referred this questionto him, and he gives the followingreply. Araucaria Imbricata is the Botanicalname of the tree called the Monkeyplant. Some of the species grow 200feet high in their native country. Thisone is a native of Chili, natural OrderPinacese. No, it would not be hardywith vou, as it is not so in the NortluM-n The Cochrane Fruit Case. 40. I notice in tiie Canadian , February, «8, p. 32, under WealthyApple, you mention |)acking ai>i)les in the Cochrane case for shi|)ping. Please describe
