One ounce of seed will poduce about 1,000 plants. Culture.—Good plants are easily grown in any good garden soil. Sow seed thinly in shallow drills a foot apar1.; thin to 4 or 5 inches. Keep soil loose and free from weeds. The plants are liable to vary con- siderably. Pick out the strongest and best. In fall or spring following, transplant to the permanent bed 4 feet apart each way, in deep, warm and very rich The more manure the better stalks. For winter forc- ing take up two-year roots in fall, leave out to freeze, then bed close together on cellar bottom or under greenhouse bench in the dark. Linnaeus. Early, large, tender and very fine.
