I have seen them enterStarlings nests every time the Starlings left toget food for their young and remain only justlong enough to escape detection; and the waythey harass my Wrens inclines me to murder-ous thoughts. We are told that besides thebirds of prey. Crows, Blue Jays, Grackles andeven Catbirds become cannibals at times andeat little nestlings of other birds, but EnglishSparrows have been known to kill themand just drop them to the ground in whatlooks like pure wanton cruelty. All told, the English Sparrow is a menace intoo many ways to deserve considering his pro- tection. They are dirty, noisy, quarrelsome,meddlesome and cruel. To be perfectly fair,I will say that for a couple of weeks in thespring they no doubt are a benefit to my elmtrees for they eat the little green wormthat attacks the leaves; but I am veryconfident that
