Turquoise mosaic mask AD 1400-1521. A pair of serpents is entwined around the eyes, nose and mouth of this mask. Two serpent tails meet at the top and a feathered plume hangs down on either side. Snakes were used metaphorically to represent the attributes of two well-known Aztec deities: the Rain God Tlaloe and the Creator God Quetzalcoatl.
