It may be noted that one of thebricks has upon it the print of thetoes of a childs foot. Among the pottery found in thisupper stratum may be mentioned thefragment of a specimen of the olddark-coloured ribbed pottery, in theshape of the handle, neck, and brokenspout of a vase, the spout beingadorned with two eyes, in order toavert the evil eye (No. 1568). In fact, a time camewhen the ancient tumulus of HanaiTepeh formed a portion of the necro-polis of the historical town of Thym-bra, now represented by Akshi Kioi,and groups of tombs are met with allthe way to it from the latter tombs, too, occur near thesurface of the tumulus, some of whichcontain several bodies, along withvases, beads, and bronze tombs are built of stones, withstone covers, and are ornamented withengraved crosses.
