Wide angle view of the Transamerica Pyramid, 600 Montgomery Street, San Francisco

North side of the Transamerica Pyramid, taken from Washington Street, with a reflection of the buildings up Telegraph Hill. It is the tallest commercial building in San Francisco. Begun in 1969, completed 1972, at a cost of $44 million dollars. Designed by William Pereira & Associates. Originally designed to be 1000 feet tall, it was lowered to 853 feet so as not to change the city's skyline too dramatically. It's covered in white, pre-cast quartz aggregate panels, with vertically louvered aluminium panels on the spire, rising 212 feet above the top floor.
