There are three distinct phalangesin tho middle finger ; the greater part of tho wing-membrane 13exceedingly thin, but a narrow portion along the forearm, the sidesof the body, and the legs is remarkably thick and leathery;beneath this thickened portion the wings aro folded, and it isevidently analogous to the thickened part of the anterior wings inhemipterous insects and to the elytra of the Colcoj^lcra. With thowings thus encased, this species is the most q^uadiupedal of pcculiaritiea of structure are found in the n-markallo form ofthe claws thumbs and toes, which havceach a small talon.
