Venus from Mariner 10
Image-processed ultraviolet photograph taken by Mariner 10 of the planet Venus. The image was taken on February 6th 1974, one day after the spacecraft flew past Venus on its way to Mercury. The blue does not represent the real colour of the planet, but the result of darkroom processing using a blue filter in order to enhance the ultraviolet markings on the planet's clouds. The correct orientation is with the swirl of cloud at the south pole.
