Robot insect. View of the miniature mobile robot \Khepera\" developed at Microinformation Laboratory EPFL in Switzerland. Seen moving across the key- board of a computer, Khepera is 6cm in diameter & 3cm high (without extensions). Equipped with two linear camera \"eyes\" (64 pixels) it also has eight infrared sensors which help it to avoid obstacles. Khepera is battery driven for 20 minutes before a recharge. With its arm module (at top) it can grip and transport small objects. This miniature robot insect designed using nanotechnology and micro- mechanics, may be used in industry to make on-the- spot repairs inside inaccessible machinery."
