Valley of Fire, Nevada, USA. This valley, north-east of Las Vegas, is within the Valley of Fire State Park. It is named for the colour of the red sandstone formations at sunset. The sandstone formations are around 150 million years old. They have been heavily eroded over time and shaped by uplifting and faulting. Pre-Columbian peoples that inhabited this area include the Anasazi (Ancestral Pueblo people). Several Anasazi sites are present in the valley, and include examples of rock art (petroglyphs).
