Images not to be used by the tobacco industry. Ragworm head, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). The ragworm is a polychaete worm from the family Nereididae. They are segmented worms with long flattened bodies consisting of many segments. Each segment has a pair of parapods or swimming legs. At the head end they have a toothed proboscis. Ragworms are found predominantly in muddy shorelines and are often used for fishing bait. They can live up to three years. Some species are considered an active predator, sifting through the mud for small ocean creatures, others exist as scavengers. Magnification: x35 when printed at 10 cm wide.
