Sheringham Shoal wind farm off the north Norfolk coast, UK
The Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm, located between 17 and 23 km off the north Norfolk coast, has a capacity of 317 MW. It consists of 88 wind turbines, each with a capacity of MW. The expected annual production of TWh will supply some 220,000 homes with clean energy. The wind farm covers an area of approximately 35 sq km. Turbine blade length is 52 metres (170 feet), and turbine tower height is 80 metres (262 feet). The turbines are placed on monopile foundations piled into the seabed. From the two 900 tonne offshore substations, two 132 kV marine cables come ashore at Weybourne. An underground cable of kilometres connects the wind farm to a substation at Salle, near Cawston. From the substation, the power is transported to Norwich where it enters the National Grid. The wind farm is owned by Statoil, UK Green Investment Bank and Statkraft through joint-venture company Scira Offshore Energy Limited.
