The observance included excerpts from the Emancipation Proclamation and Martin Luther King Jr’s ‘I Have A Dream’ speech, as both helped shape a part of the african american migration, and talk about freedom for every citizen in the United States regardless of the color of their skin. Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the most important voices of the American civil rights movement. His speeches sparked change in eliminating segregation and obtaining equal rights. Most notably, in MLK’s ‘I Have A Dream’ speech, he says “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” This month is intended to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems, promote equality, and move us closer to Dr. King's vision of a "Beloved Community."
