Coronary angiography. Medical staff performing an angiogram of the blood vessels around a patient's heart. Angiograms use a radio-opaque contrast medium injected into the blood vessels and multiple X-rays, taken from different angles around the patient's body. This shows the structure and size of the blood vessels and allows doctors to spot any narrowing or damage to them. In coronary angiography (coronary catheterisation) the contrast medium is injected directly into the major coronary artery through a narrow flexible tube (catheter). Photographed in Frejus, France.
