The Common Marmoset (Callithrix jacchus) a New World monkey native to the northeast coast of Brazil.

This one resides in a Louisiana zoo where it stands to live a longer life than those in the wild. They're active during daytime in the forests, sure footed and agile, as they dart through branches and jump from tree to tree. They're also observed in open fields. They live in strictly ranked family groups of up to 15, dominated by an aggressive leader. Although their mating arrangements vary from monogamous to polygynous to polyandrous, all family members participate in caring for the young.
