Eine genauere Untersuchung ergibt jedoch, dasz es sich um hohle Gebilde handelt, die am freien Ende eine becherförmige Erweiterung mit einem mittleren Porus tragen. Der Protoplast ragt nur in die Basis der hyalinen Zellenden hinein und sendet in den hohlen Endteil einen äuszerst zarten, vollkommen hyalinen Faden, der aus dem Porus des Endbechers als Pseudo- flagellum mehr oder weniger hervorragt. Der- artige Gebilde sind meines Wissens bei Pedia- strum bislang noch nicht aufgefunden worden. Wohl hat 0. Zacharias seinerzeit an den Enden der Randzellen von Pediastrum duplex Meyen var. clathratum A. Br. und var. reticulatum Lagerheim feine Bor- stenbüschel aufgefunden, aber niemals Pseudoflagellen. Die Bor- stenbüschel sind ohne Zweifel als Mittel zur Erhöhung der Schweb- fähigkeit aufzufassen; welche Bedeutung aber den Pseudoflagellen zukommt, ist mir vorläufig unklar.
