THE BUILDINGThe building as reconstructed is shown in an accompany-ing reproduction. The exterior walls and the interior wallsof the engine room are of salmon pressed brick laid incement mortar. The walls of the engine room, which areentirely of brick, support the crane runway and the rooftrusses. A steel framework, into which the brick wallsof the boiler room are built, support the coal bunkers andthe economizers. The floors are of slate-colored concreteandthe roof consists of 2^4 ins. of concrete with a coating. Free circulation of air is provided in the. VIEW OF FRONT OF THE CLAIBORNE POWER HOUSE OFFICES AND MACHINE SHOP The space east of the switchboard and bus structures isdevoted to offices, a machine shop, toilet and wash rooms,which contain needle baths and porcelain finish washtroughs supplied with hot and cold water and are furnishedwith expanded metal lockers. Separate toilet and washrooms are provided for the colored firemen. LIGHTING General lighting of the generator room is effected by arclamps supported on wall brackets. The boiler room andswitchboard structure are lighted with incandescent lamps. THE CLAIBORNE STATION The Claiborne station is located at Elysian Fields Streetand the river, about two miles below the Main or MarketStreet station. It is essentially a direct-current station. Theoriginal portion, built about nine years ago, contains two300-kw and one 850-kw General Electric railway generatorsdirect connected to Allis-Chalmers compound engines, andfour 350-hp Edgemoor boilers.
