Maximilianeum, Extension Bavarian Parliament, Muenchen, Germany. Architect: Leon Wohlhage Wernik, 2012. Corner detail with full-

The small extension is elegantly integrated into the listed monumental ensemble of the Maximilianeum. It represents a natural complement to the existing structure whilst also retaining a geometric autonomy. The ceramic glazing is flush with the facade to highlight the buildings figurative presence. Close-up the facade reveals an interplay of horizontal recesses that cast intricate shadows. The building is meant to be an example for energy efficient construction: it meets the German standard of a 'Passivhaus', which is extraordinary for office or public structures.
