'Trafalgar', c1806. The Battle of Trafalgar was a major naval battle between the British Navy and the combined fleets of France and Spain fought on 21 October 1805 during the Napoleonic Wars. The battle was the most decisive naval victory of the war, with the French and Spanish losing 22 ships and the British none, although the British commander, Admiral Lord Nelson, was fatally wounded on board his flagship, HMs 'Victory'.
