[ 1922.] PUBLIC DOCUMENT — No. 98. 45 The preceding pages of statistics tabulating eight yearswork of this Division in control of hog cholera may be inter-preted and considered as a fairly correct history of the actualprevalence of the disease in Massachusetts, except during theearlier years in the table when the work had only commencedand was not known to swine owners generally. The high point of our work in 1919 was reached when hogcholera was raging extensively in many different sections of thecountry. This was followed by a low year in 1920 all overthe country. Early in 1921 the Middle West reported rapidlyincreasing prevalence of the disease, its virulence also becomingvery much intensified. We began to note the same conditionappearing in this State in the early fall months, and it is stillcontinuing at much the same rate at the date of this indications point to a largely increased ainount of controlwork for the Avinter and spring months.
