Reforesting plans at Hemlock and Canadice lakes received quite a setback some time ago, when it was found that some strange disease was attacking part of a planting of 20,000 pines which had been set out about three years ago. These trees were brought from Germany and the disease confined its attacks to that one variety of tree. But one of the peculiar features of the' disease was that it would attack currant and goose- berry bushes in the neighborhood of an infected tree. The State Department of Agriculture was appealed to and all last week one of its experts was on the scene. The result of his investigation was the uprooting of all currant and gooseberry bushes and the diseased trees. The uprooted trees and the bushes were burned, and close watch will be kept for any further outbreak of the evil. A. N.
