Fluorescent fish research. A researcher sorts eggs of transgenic Japanese rice fish (Oryzias latipes) using a microscope. The fish have been developed as a method of detecting and quantifying the presence of certain pollutants in water. They have been modified to fluoresce in the presence of endocrine disruptors, and fish which have been exposed to such pollutants will glow bright green.
