Rhodomela algae. Light micrograph of part of the branching thallus of the red algae Rhodomela sp. Here, reproductive structures (black) are visible at the tips of the branches. Red algae plants are usually of separate sex: the male sex organs of one plant produce non-motile spermatia, and the female sex organs (carpogonia) of another plant produce female reproductive cells which can be fertilised.
