P-47 world war 2 era plane 490447 crash in Hudson River temporarily on Pier 6.


This P-47 Thunderbolt World War 2 era plane was piloted by William Gordon, 56 of Key West Florida. It crashed into the Hudson River on May 27, 2016 during an attempted emergency landing. The pilot was killed. After the plane was recovered from the Hudson River, it was transported temporarily to to the downtown Manhattan Heliport at Pier 6. Officials from the FAA were able to inspect the plane at this location. The plane was moved off Pier 6 later in the day.
