The keep of Norham Castle on the Scottish Border, one of the principal castles on the English side.


Norham Castle one of the most famous castles on the Scottish Border, the Keep viewed through the West Gate or Marmion's arch named after Sir Walter Scott's fictional character of the same name, the real Sir Marmion came to Norham the most dangerous place in england to prove his bravery. Famous for it's part in the Scottish Wars of Independence it lost much of it's importance as a stronghold when it fell to James IV of Scotland just before the Battle of Flodden in 1513.
