In the animal fraction from dark grown hydras at around 30 h label was incorporated into the TCA-insoluble alcohol-soluble lipid- soluble (lipid and lipid-soluble compounds; small protein) fraction. With longer time intervals, these compounds were lost either as a result of leakage or due to utilization by the organism. The 3H-leucine data is summarized in Table 1.
