There are two classicalforms of bandage for securing the arm to the side, known asthe Velpeau (Fig. 62) and the Desault bandages. Inthe former the whole arm is included, in the latter only theupper arm is fixed, the forearm being left uncovered and withsome freedom of motion. The position of the arm for the Velpeau 128 MINOR TECHNIC IN SURGICAL NURSING bandage is with the hand resting on the front of the oppositeshoulder. The bandage consists of spiral turns about the bodyincluding the arm and forearm, with alternate turns passingover the shoulder on the injured side, from behind forwards,and passing down under the arm and forearm.
