The west gallery wall of the Khmer temple of Banteay Chhmar, northwest Cambodia. The bas-relief carvings are a series of multi-armed Lokesvaras (the compassionate bodhisattva in Mahayana Buddhism), and were the subject in 1999 of large-scale theft. Built Built between the late 12th and early 13th centuries during the reign of King Jayavarman VII, Banteay Chhmar is in the same architectural style as the Bayon at Angkor, and has the same face-towers.
