PHiKiNGTON, of Portland, Ore., will attend the Boston convention next week for the purpose of inviting the American Association of Nurserymen to hold its 1913 convention in Portland. ^ The Gulf Coast Nurserymen's Associa- tion held its annual meeting at Port Arthur, Tex., June 2 and 3. Sunday was devoted to the social features, with the business session and the visits to local nurseries on Monday. AccoBDiNO to the U. S. census, a bulletin on the subject having been issued May 22, there were in 1910 a total of 1,276,366 farms reporting bearing pear trees to the aggregate of 15,172,000, with 8,804,000 trees that had not yet reached the bearing age. W. M. Allen, manager of the Northwestern Nursery Co., of Baraboo, Wis., has purchased W. J. Harrison's nursery stock, with the exception of the strawberry department. Included in the purchase is a general variety of apples, plums, cherries and small shrubbery. Mr. Harrison expects to give his whole at- tention in the future to the strawberry business, which has become extensive. The American Association of Nursery- men is more nearly national, in so far as its travels go, than any other of the trade bodies. It has met in Dallas and in Denver, b
