22/01/19 Garden curator Rebecca Emery (26) records the early flowering of a mature 'Robyn' rhododendron at Lea Garden, near Matlock, Derbyshire. Garden and collection owner Pete Tye said: "This variety normally flowers in mid-March but is flowering at least two weeks earlier than usual due to the unusual warm start to spring - it's the earliest we've seen them flower since we began keeping records fifteen years ago. "It's great to see the signs of spring and hopefully the winter is behind us now, but a frost could be catastrophic for the flowers." Lea Gardens opens to the public on March 1st.
