Silver City is a town of tourist resorts near the entrance to Porcupine Mountains State Park (locally "the porkies"). In the 1870s it was a silver mining boom town. A fur-trading post was the first settlement. Silver was found on the Little Iron River in the 1850s. Lake Superior's pebble beaches are used by tourists for rock picking.
