Dead Olive Ridley turtle killed by poachers in Orissa India who take the turtles for their meat which is illegal in this lost but very poor part of northern India on the Bay of Bengal. Trawlers also catch turtles in their nets and either kill and keep them for meat or thrown them back into the sea. Numbers of this turtle are falling in the area - when nesting and laying eggs the turtles are also killed and their eggs harvested by villagers - who themselves live on the brink of starvation along Orissa's coast - one of the poorest areas of India.
