Image of the constellation Canis Major - though the print is itself marked [at the top] with the name Sirius, which denotes the major star in the asterism. Seventeen century hand-colourd engraving, based on the ninth century Aratus illumination in Leiden. Aratus was born about 315 BC, in Soli, and was author of the early star-book 'Phaenomena'.
