ARTERIOSCLEROSIS CAROTID

Photo essay from hospital. Photo essay at Alleray-Labrouste clinic, Paris, France. Department of vascular surgery. Operating room. Carotid endarterectomy is the ablation of an atherosclerosis at the level of the carotid bifurcation. The atherosclerosis is an atherosclerosis with formation of atheroma plaques. These plaques narrow and obstruct the artery which can provoke severe disorders (palsy, vision disorders, elocution disorders). When these plaques have become voluminous and become a significant risk of severe disorders, they can be treated either with drugs either by surgery. The factor favoring the formation of atheroma plaques are tobacco, sedentarity, alcohol, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia and arterial hypertension. Piece of internal carotid presenting atherosclerosis which has been removed during the intervention.
