The chair cars will have Scarritt chairs. An-other contract is for 16 first-class cars for the Wabash. These compressor is vertical,diameter. The two fly-wheels are 14 ft. 8 The shops of E. P. Allis & Company, Milwaukee, Wis., arebuilding a vertical, tandem, compound mine-pump engine forthe Chaplin Mine, Iron Mountain, Mich. The cylinders measurerespectively 50 in. and 100 in., with a stroke of 10 ft. The fly-wheel is 40 ft, in diameter and weighs 160 tons. The mainshaft is 27 in. in diameter and the crank-pin 10 in. indiameter. The crank-shaft weighs nearly S tons. The beam is32 ft. in length from center to center, and weighs 100 connecting-rod is 30 ft. in length from center to center,and 15 in. in diameter in the center. This engine is 54 ft. inheight from bed plate, and is intended to work a line of 28 against 1,500 ft. of head. The New York Central & Hudson River Company has de-cided to build extensive shops near Buffalo. They will be the largest and most importanton the line, and will employ from 1,200 to 1,500 men when completed. A newtown will be built up in con-nection with the shops, andwill be named Depe
