France, Somme (80), Saint-Riquier, Saffron harvest at Fabrice Houdant's Safran du Scardon in Saint-Riquier. Fabrice started growing saffron, the most expensive spice in the world (€40 a gram), two years ago. He planted 50,000 bulbs in August and is now harvesting the flowers. Saffron needs loose soil and all weeding is done by hand. Fabrice does not use any treatments.
