The upkeep and attendance required bythis method is a minimum, as the belt-conveyor consistsof two parts only, the moving belts (Fig. 35) and the stationarysupporting rollers (Fig. 36). At the present moment it has beendecided to instal various plants of this type in this Fig. 36.—Belt-conveyor System, Victoria Dock, Hull: View ofStationary Supporting Rollers (or Idlers). (3) Installations under Typical Conditions.—Messrs. Fraser& Chalmers have also just designed a large plant on similar linesfor another large railway company in this country. As thisplant is intended to be laid down under somewhat typical con-ditions, it will probabl3r be of some interest to give a shortdescription of the arrangements. The coal will be stored in wagons in a field near the quay, and discharged at four points on the quay front: the two outershoots being stationary, whilst the two inner shoots are to bemovable. The distance between the two outer shoots will beabout 590 feet. The field is arranged with four separate sets of tracks, all branching off to two main lines. Each set of track con- 174 COAL-SHIPMENT AND THE LAYING-OUT OF STAITHE HEADS. sists of three tracks for full wagons, and one track for emptywagons. The total storage capacity of the field will be 9,900f
