Historic Smelter Smokestack in Colorado
Salida, Colorado - An historic, 365-foot high smokestack built by the Ohio and Colorado Smelting and Refining Company. It was built after ranchers complained that cyanide-laden fumes from shorter chimneys were harming their crops and animals. The company went out of business in 1920; the smokestack is on the National Register of Historic Places.
