Beltane Fire Festival ushers in summer on Monday 30th April with a spectacular display of fire, immersive theatre, drumming, bodypaint, and elaborate costumes. Described by some as the “medieval Burning Man”, this alternative May Day celebration re-imagines the ancient Celtic festival with roughly 300 volunteer performers for thousands of spectators on top of Calton Hill. The society threw its 30th Beltane Fire Festival last year, and 2018 marks 30 years since the festival was first founded in 1988.
