The remarkable thing about this is that themanual training did not undergo a complete decline;on the contrary, it maintained a fair degree of ef-ficiency—which is much to the credit of the Berkeleymanual training teachers. Then last year, after much searching and weigh-ing, the Berkeley Board of Education elected Patty to head-up the manual training work,and in addition, to establish the part-time educa-tion which became compulsory by state legislative VI.
