Tilbury, UK. 27 Feb, 2012. Black smoke and steam pours from a power station in Tilbury, Essex, after a severe fire broke out. More than 100 firefighters are tackling the blaze. It is reported that the fire started in a wood pellet hopper containing some 2,000 tonnes of fuel.


100 firefighters are tackling a severe fire in a power station in Tilbury Essex. Essex County Fire and Rescue Service were called to the blaze at around 07:45 on Monday morning. Black smoke and steam pured from the roof of the building as some 16 fire crews battle to bring the blaze under control. A police helicopter has also been used to assist the fire service in providing an overview of the scene. It is reported that the fire started in a wood pellet hopper containing some 2,000 tonnes of fuel, a second fuel hooper is also understood to be well alight.
