Knee arthroscopy. Surgeon and patient studying an image of the patient's knee joint displayed on a video screen. The image is obtained from an arthroscope (narrow telescope) that has been inserted into the joint. Knee arthroscopy allows the diagnosis of knee problems such as arthritis and inflammation and can be used to repair damaged tissue and cartilage. During the procedure, small tissue samples may be taken (biopsies), which can help diagnose infections.
